Spring is in the air! I love this time of the year. It’s still cool in the mornings but warms up with all the sunshine in the afternoons. The children love it too, and the teachers have been spending lots of time outdoors and planning extra movement activities. Everyone loves it when it’s warm enough to have lunch picnics on the playground. Please make sure you are dressing your child in layers that can be removed as the day get warmer. Also, remember to change out the extra clothes in your child’s backpack to suit the warmer weather. I know I have a hard time remembering to do that too!
I have to give a big shout out to our parent volunteers! Zoe Mayers, Rex’s mom from the Sprouts, volunteered her time to lead a Yoga fitness class with the kids. They all had so much fun! I still see them practicing their downward dog pose when I am walking around the school. We also made chocolate scented play dough. Zoe and Myra Shaffer, Colt’s mom from the Sprouts, did such an awesome job. The kids love to make and play with the play dough that we make here at school.
I had a great time at spirit night at Yeah! Burger! The food was delicious and the company was even better. I love having the chance to hang out with other MDO families outside of school. I encourage everyone to come to our next MDO event, the Pancake Breakfast on March 4th coordinated by Ann Pearman, Emmy’s mom from the Wonders! We can all come in our pajamas and eat delicious pancakes and socialize together. I promise you the kids will love it! If you would like to sign up to bring something let me know!
March is looking like a busy month! We have the pancake breakfast on March 4th. We have a visit from Brookhaven Children’s Dentistry on March 10th in honor of National Dental Health Month. They will talk to the kids about how to have healthy teeth and probably give out some free samples. Teacher Appreciation Week is March 27-31. The teachers have been working hard all year teaching and playing with your little ones so please make sure you do something to show your appreciation for them. Lastly, Jeffini the Great is coming to do a show for us on March 31st! He is an awesome magician and a great entertainer for kids! I look forward to his show every year and I know the kids do too! The show will start at 10am. If your child doesn’t come on Fridays, that's okay. Everyone is welcome to attend the show!
Letter from the Board
Spring is in the air! The tulips have arrived and the sunlight and mild temperatures are definitely extending our outdoor play. I don’t know about you all, but this time of year certainly gets me thinking forward. Ms. Angie is in the process of planning for Summer Camp and registration will be available soon. On a related note, I know Ms. Angie reached out to you all about your preferences for the Fall Term start date. Please share your feedback with Angie, your teacher, or any of the board members. If you haven’t yet registered for Fall 2017, please stop by the office or visit the MDO Website.
The MDO Pancake Breakfast is this Saturday! Woot-woot! It is such a fun event for both the children and the parents. The pancakes are awesome too! We’ve invited and are looking forward to meeting the new families that will join MDO next year. Be sure to thank Ann Pearman for organizing the event. If you would like to participate or contribute please sign up on the SignUp Genius.
Janna Charoenlap is also planning a Mom's Night Out this month, so be on the lookout for the date and time! Guaranteed to be kid-free and with adult beverages!
As we move forward thinking and planning for Spring, Summer, and next Fall, please consider taking on a volunteer position at MDO. Thank you to everyone who is already volunteering. We owe our school’s success to you! This is my daughter’s third year at MDO. Her happiness and success here, along with the dedication of the staff and parents, encouraged me to serve as a room representative and eventually to volunteer for a board position. Through volunteering, I’ve gotten to know our teachers, students, and parents, and have had the opportunity to learn so much in my role as Treasurer. My family and I are so grateful for the friendships and opportunities we’ve experienced at MDO. Thank you all for everything that you do!

Each family will be receiving a Barefoot Books catalog to take home. You can place an order through Brittany (firstname.lastname@example.org) or the Barefoot website through March 10th!

Amy Lee from Smackdab Photography is coming to MDO at the end of the month to take the annual school photos. Your Room Rep. will share Amy's schedule with you so you can get your little ones ready for their glamour shots! Once the photos are taken, parents can purchase them, and a portion of the cost goes back to MDO. Amy does a great job every year, and we're excited to have her back!
The Sweet Peas love time outdoors, & always make space for their friends (even the stuffed ones) to eat next to them.
The Sparkles were playing hard in the gorgeous February weather with Ms. Jenna & friends from other classes. The swings are a big hit with everyone! This month the kids also got a visit from Charles (Jenna's sweet puppy).
The Sprouts were in full play mode on the playground with Ms. Evelyn, who is also seen here lending a helping hand with a pair of shoes. They also enjoyed decorating cookies at the Valentine's Day party!
Ms. Catherine somehow manages to wrangle a host of Sparrows around a table for a craft early one morning after drop-off! They also enjoyed Storytime with some of their friends from the other classes, and helped create the new bulletin board. On Valentine's Day, the Sparrows decorated hearts together!
The Caterpillars were having fun with Storytime with Ms. Daniela & Ms. Claudia this month with some friends from other classes. They also enjoy coloring, drawing, & posing for pictures.
The Wonders were hard at work playing dress up & with the dollhouse with Ms. Giselle. Soon we'll find them scheming up a new show of Project Runway-Meets-Dollhouse Fixer Upper. They also fit in some time for storytelling with friends!
