Spring is almost here and with all of the sunshine and early blooms, I definitely have a touch of spring fever! The children do too and the teachers have been spending lots of time outdoors and planning extra movement activities. Everyone loves it when it’s warm enough to have lunch picnics on the playground. All of the fun sensory activities the teachers are doing are also great to keep the kids engaged during this energetic time of the year.
Doesn’t the hallway look nice? I am sure by now you have seen the adorable class bulletin board decorated by Ms. Rosario. It’s such a cute presentation! We love our MDO babies! I hope you have also noticed the other bulletin board make-overs and the addition of a new Enrichment/PSP bulletin board. These were created by Ann Pearman, who also decorates the entrance way boards each month. Ann is so creative and finds many ways to volunteer at MDO. We are so grateful for her time and talents! When parents invest sweat equity in our little school the products and benefits are amazing. I encourage you to find a way to plug in if you haven’t already. Not only is it fun and a way to make new friends, it really does make a difference. If you aren’t up for hosting a PSP for the school, you can just do something with your child’s class. In February, Olivia’s mom, Pinar read a story in Turkish and introduced the children to numbers and colors in Turkish. What a great way to share at MDO!
Speaking of plugging in, I have to mention Chaffraix Rowles, who has helped in so many ways with a variety of things (too many to list). Her adorable twin boys are in Pre-K and although she won’t be here next year, Chaffraix is proactively involved with volunteering outside her board position as Volunteer & Room Rep Chair. She helps with MDO purchases, playground and facilities tasks, and this spring she will be sharing her gardening knowledge with the children by leading the worm compost and spring plantings. Her passion for MDO is infectious and her efforts extremely valued. Needless to say, Chaffraix will be greatly missed!
March is an exciting month here at MDO! In honor of Dr. Seuss’s birthday, Ann Pearman is hosting a PSP called Dr. Seuss Extravaganza. It is sure to be a blast! In addition, all of the classes will be reading Dr. Seuss books and doing fun Seuss activities. We also have the worm compost activity, a visit from the Alliance Theater, and a Play-doh PSP on March 10th. We may even have a secret visit by the Leprechauns on St. Patrick’s Day. Sshhh…..!
In March we are also kicking off the make-over of the upstairs room to create a Reading Nook and Play Area. I am SO excited about this!!! What started with the library move is progressing into a fun make-over to the upstairs room. Gracious monetary donations to MDO have afforded us the opportunity to purchase some rugs, beanbags and a few other items. We have great plans for this room and but will need your help to complete the vision. Later this month you will learn more about our plans and how you may contribute!
Lastly, a reminder, Friday, March 11 is a Teacher Workday so MDO will be closed. The teachers will be doing some spring cleaning, training, and making plans for the rest of the year.
March Spirit Day: Hippo Hop 3/11 3-6pm
See you there this Friday! Be sure to tell them you're with MDO.

The year is Marching on, and spring comes this month! It feels like yesterday I was telling the kids all about winter. We’ve had a great time talking about animals and their different habitats, the kids just can’t get enough of it. They especially enjoyed learning and talking about the animals of the rainforest. March and April will be equally exciting, if not more, as we explore our next theme: Our Earth and The Solar System.
In February we had a fabulous Valentine’s Day party, We had a PSP participant come in to talk about the Chinese New Year, and even brought dumplings and rice cakes, what a treat that was! Aizah’s Mommy (Qurat) brought in her stethoscope during “S” week and taught us about our hearts, we also got to listen to our hearts beat as well, it was very informative and the children enjoyed it. Nina’s Mommy (Zoe) was a mystery solved when she came in to be a Mystery Reader. The children get such a kick out of trying to guess who will read to them, they’re such great listeners!
I would like to welcome our newest members to the Four Year Old Club: Alexis (2/23), Anais (3/9), and Aizah (3/14). Happy Birthday friends!
Thank you for all that you do and being apart of our wonderful school, "We love our MDO, don't you know!"
- Ms. Lisa
The year is flying by in Spring 3s! We spent the month of February among hearts and shapes. These little ones of yours had so much fun making hearts for the Valentine's holiday, making shape art, playing with our new shape puzzle and going on a shape scavenger hunt. I am so proud to say that more of these little ones are saying goodbye to diapers and hello to big kid undies! In our class we have introduced the treasure chest.
This coming month, in March, we have a lot of fun ahead of us. Three of our friends are having birthdays - Madison, Frances and Christian! We will also be celebrating Dr. Suess's birthday this month. Each week will be a different Dr. Suess book, filled with games, art and more.
- Ms. Giselle
We are having so much fun in the Spring 2s class as everyone nears their second birthday! The children are interacting more during play-time and their communication is definitely improving. We have been learning some nursery rhymes in the classroom. Ask your child about “Jack Be Nimble” and “Pat-a-cake.”
The children enjoyed the Valentine's party immensely and sharing Valentine's cards with their classmates. Thank you for all the delicious goodies! We will miss Jaewon who moved back to Korea with his family in February. But we welcome Ben to the Spring 2s. He is already into the class routine and making new friends. Ben’s little brother, Owen, is in the baby class.

In case you missed the Pancake Breakfast, we had so much fun eating delicious pancakes in our PJs! Thanks to everyone who helped out and attended!
In February we had a PSP about Chinese New Year hosted by Ming Juan. The kids had a fun time making lanterns and tasting homemade dumplings and rice cakes. Thanks Ming!
The kids always enjoy making (and playing with) Play-doh!
Pre-K was very busy in February! Here are snapshots from their Melted Snowman art project, 100th Day of School, Pizza & Pajama Day, Soap Snowman science experiment, and of course Looney Leap Day!
Here are the Fall 2s conducting serious pizza business and having fun with costumes, and the Fall 3s on a Library Excursion with Miss Kim!
All the kids enjoyed the class Valentine's Day parties, too!
